A bite on the leg from a 4-foot bull shark ended a fun day on the water Sunday in South Florida.
Jessica Vaughn, 22, of Coral Springs, was out boating with friends who were tubing on the Intracoastal Waterway near Fort Lauderdale.
Friends said Vaughn was nervous about getting into the water in the first place. Before she could even swim out to the tube, Vaughn said she felt something “hit her — it felt like somebody punched my leg.”
“Just a big splash in the water, turn back and the tail or fin was out of the water, and that was it,” Vaughn’s boyfriend told ABC News.
Vaughn underwent surgery to repair tendons and muscle damage, and she is expected to make a full recovery.
There have been nearly a dozen shark attacks so far this year on the waters of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Hawaii, according to the report.
