In just three short weeks, the billfish tournament happened on schedule, sending the message that the destination had recovered quickly and was open for visitors.

Prized landings included a 365-pound blue marlin, a 78.4-pound tuna, a 43.6-pound wahoo and a 25.4-pound dorado.

The 2014 Los Cabos Billfish Tournament wasn’t about maximizing participation just weeks after Hurricane Odile devastated the Mexican destination.

Organizers of the 16th annual tournament, which wrapped after five days on Saturday, say the running theme was the cleanup that was made possible by support from the federal government. It sent 20,000 army, navy and utilities specialists to help.
