By the time you read this, the Leg 8 winner of the 2017-2018 Volvo Ocean Race from Itajaí, Brazil, should have crossed the finish line in Newport, Rhode Island, with the rest of the fleet close on their heels.
If you missed the Newport finish, do not despair. You can check out Leg 8 race results here, and filmed action from Leg 8, below.
There also will be ample opportunity to see the Volvo Ocean 65s on the water off Newport for the in-port race, which kicks off May 19. The fleet sets sail again on May 20 at 2 p.m. EST bound for Cardiff, Wales.
The Volvo Ocean Race Village in Newport opens today. Newport is the only North American stopover for the 2017-2018 Volvo Ocean Race, which started in Alicante, Spain, on October 22, 2017.
After Cardiff, the fleet will head off for Gothenburg, Sweden, for Leg 10, and then finish the final leg of the round-the-world marathon in The Hague, the Netherlands. The starting cannon for the final in-port race will fire June 30.
