A group of boaters in Puget Sound, Washington, needed rescuing after a wave broke the windshield on their Axopar 37. The USCG Sector Puget Sound received a mayday call from the vessel before water shorted out the boat’s radio.

With the mayday call out, a USCG vessel and the Washington State Ferry Samish headed to the boat’s location near Decatur Island. The ferry arrived at the scene first and took four boaters aboard. The ferry then positioned itself to block oncoming wind and waves from further damaging the adventure boat.
A USCG response boat (RB-M) from the Bellingham Station rescued another two guests, and the passenger’s two dogs Buster and Belle from the vessel. The USCG crew then drove the boat on its own bottom back to shore in Anacortes.

Responders told the USCG Sector Puget Sound, “A wave crashed over the bow, destroying the windshield and causing water to enter the cabin.”
