Footage of a blue whale swimming alongside a boat off the coast of San Diego was captured by a drone on June 19. The videographer was Domenic Biagini, owner of Gone Whale Watching, who says that the whale approached the boat unprompted.
Biagini had seen blue whales almost every day for the past week before this encounter. They are drawn to the California coast during the summer months to feed on the abundant population of krill. His engine was shut off when the whale approached him. He was just drifting, amazed by the moment.
