A New Concept for Charging E-Boats

A new ‘powerdock’ concept uses solar energy to charge boats from batteries built into the dock.

As the electric boat market grows, new innovations are popping up to make boating more sustainable. The Powerdock, a concept from Faroboats, winner of the 2022 Gussies Electric Boat Awards, is a moveable dock/boat port with solar panels.

The dock, designed to fit any single berth or standard marina dock, can be permanent but is also towable. The roof of the dock holds four 450-watt solar panels that can output as much as 2.7 kW. Powerdocks are available with three battery capacities: 10.2 kW, 20.4 kW and 30.6 kW.

According to Faroboats, the dock can also be set up with wind turbines instead of solar. Faroboats was launched in 2022 to “bring self-renewable boating solutions to the world.”
