For some reason, Chicago fishing boat captain Joel Reiser changed his mind about where to take his charter group over the weekend. And his altered course led him to saving a man’s life.
Reiser had left the 31st Street Harbor about 40 minutes late on Sunday morning and decided to head farther south than he originally planned. About six miles out, he spotted something on the horizon, maybe an orange kayak.
“We slowed up the boat, we look around and we actually saw somebody’s head in between, it was actually four PFDs,” Reiser told the Chicago Tribune. “We spun around, we went there, he yelled for help, we threw a life ring to him and we brought him into the boat.”
