The Springfield Motor Boat Club in Illinois now allows women to join after members of the private Lake Springfield Club last week approved bylaws.

The vote reversed a prohibition against women members that had been in place since the club was formed in 1933, although wives of members were allowed to use club facilities.

Gene Hayes, the club’s commodore, said in a statement that he and the board of directors had worked hard to “address a situation which should have been corrected years ago.”
