Some 20 miles away from Sandy Hook, N.J., Bob Rueck and his buddy Jim Mathews were fluke fishing Sunday morning when they saw a boat heading straight toward them.
Rueck found it odd that the boat was so close to Mathews’ 30-foot center console that morning, despite it being the only other vessel he saw in the ocean at the time. Now it was coming at them.
“I’d say at around 9 o’clock in the morning, he wound up heading straight toward us,” Rueck, 35, told the Asbury Park Press. “We were like, ‘what are you doing?’ And he says, ‘I’m sinking!'”
