Say goodbye to the dozens of abandoned boats that were left to rot on the banks of Terrebonne Parish’s bayous in southern Louisiana.

Crews started work this week and will continue through month’s end to dismantle and dispose of the decaying vessels in a campaign to remove blight.

Forty-two boats will be removed from bayous Grand Caillou, Dulac, Terrebonne, Dularge and Petite Caillou, said Jack Gardner, manager of the parish Geographic Information Systems.

Abandoned boats are a long-running problem that requires periodic attention. Some were sunk by storms; others were simply abandoned by their owners.
