The body of a man found floating four miles off Montauk Point, N.Y., on Saturday was identified as the captain of a tug boat who fell overboard 11 days ago in rough seas off Newport, R.I.
The captain, Brendan O’Leary, 48, of Marblehead, Mass., was aboard the 91-foot tug Steven Scott when crew members reported he had gone overboard sometime on April 25 as the tug was approaching the Cape Cod Canal.
Seas were rough in the area that day, averaging over 6-feet, according to the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard and other vessels scoured the area for more than 27 hours before calling off the search.
