Artists Gregg Whelan and Gary Winters make up a performance group called Lone Twin, which puts a broad range of projects, from theatrical productions to participatory public events.
Now the duo has turned its artistic sights to building a 30-foot yacht constructed entirely of scraps of discarded wood and 1,200 donated wooden objects, including a piece of a pier and of an electric guitar.
The project will culminate next summer with the vessel being sailed by six members of the public along the English Channel to mark the 2012 Olympics.
