Soundings contributing writers and editors last week walked away with three writing awards and a certificate of merit from the 2018 Boating Writers International Writing Contest. Awards were presented on the opening morning of the 2019 Miami International Boat Show on Virginia Key.

Contributing Editor Kim Kavin won first place for her ACLU Joins Boater’s Case Against Suspicion-less On-Water Searches feature from the July issue of Soundings and a second-place award for Slowing Atlantic ‘Conveyor Belt’ Will Bring Rising Sea Levels, which appeared in the August issue of Soundings. Kavin also was recognized for her Restoring a Beacon of Hope story in the January issue of Soundings with a certificate of merit.

Executive Editor Pim Van Hemmmen was awarded first place in the Boat Tests & Reviews category for his Bigger Faster Stronger feature about the Hinckley Picnic Boat 40 from the October issue of Soundings.

Senior editor Gary Reich, who also is a senior writer at Anglers Journal, took home a first-place prize for his profile of Lefty Kreh, Lefty, in the January 2019 issue of Anglers Journal.
