The Bossy Betty went down Dec. 7, gurgling under the gelid waters of the East River at the City Dock in Brunswick, Ga.
As a shrimp trawler, the old boat was a nearly worthless hulk. As it rests on the bottom, it’s worth a small fortune — to some lucky salvage company.
Unfortunately for the city, which owns the dock at Mary Ross Waterfront Park, it likely will have to ante up the $80,000 cost to raise the vessel, the Bossy Betty’s owner having abandoned the boat and left.
This is sunken treasure for those in the business. For the city, it’s another drain on city coffers. A few years ago, the city shelled out $67,000 to raise and remove another sunken boat.
