The Volvo Ocean Race fleet is racing hard and fast at around 20 knots of boat speed with 3,000 miles to go until they reach the end of the leg in Auckland, New Zealand.

Reports from the racing yachts include boat breakages, people breakages and very fast yachting. People are beginning to wear thin; the non-stop fire hosing is taking a toll on everyone’s bodies and minds.

“It was becoming difficult to look after yourself out there, let alone trimming a sail,” said one bowman on a boat.

Meanwhile, from March 4-10, the 2012 Bacardi Miami Sailing Week Presented by EFG Bank will host one-design competition on Biscayne Bay.

The third annual running of Miami Sailing Week will mark several milestones starting with the 150th anniversary of the Bacardi Company, as well as the 50th year that the Bacardi Cup is being held in Miami for the storied Star class which just celebrated its own 100th anniversary.
