Three British soldiers aboard an army vessel taking part in a regatta allegedly went on a drunken spree in a French port and destroyed five boats, according to the British press.
They are accused of stealing one vessel and crashing it into four others, causing almost $160,000 in damage and resulting in the cancellation of a national fishing competition.
French police commandant Jean-Pierre Mercier said that King, 38, from Caynham, Shropshire, had been part of the regatta on Saturday night.
“All three men were drunk,” said French police commandant Jean-Pierre Mercier. “It was an extremely stupid thing to do for men who appeared to be mature and of some standing.”
