The first all-electric workboat in the New York State Canal System was launched earlier this month.
The project was initiated to demonstrate how electric propulsion eliminates exhaust emissions and the potential for fuel spills in waterways, while reducing fuel and maintenance costs.
The tender is propelled by two motors provided by Elco Motor Yachts, and the N.Y. State Canal Corporation is using the tender to test the sustainability of electric propulsion for the rest of its workboats.
