Family members of a boat passenger who was killed in a crash last year on Virginia’s Smith Mountain Lake have settled their civil suit against the two pilots involved for $450,000.

Timothy O’Quinn, 37, died May 2, 2014, after the bass boat he was riding in was struck by a similar watercraft on the Franklin County part of the lake, near Bernard’s Landing.

Both boats were involved in a fishing tournament at the time.

O’Quinn, who was in the rear, went underwater after the impact and his body was not recovered until the following day.
