Rep. Jeff Miller, R-Fla., recently introduced the Sportsmen’s Heritage Act of 2012 with the support of leaders of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus, the National Marine Manufacturers Association announced.

This legislative package addresses two threats to recreational fishing: attempts to ban lead fishing tackle and loss of access to public lands.

The bill includes language that seeks to prevent a federal ban on lead in recreational fishing tackle and would ensure that future regulations on fishing tackle are based on scientific fact.

The bill also would increase access to angling, hunting and recreational shooting on federal lands by prioritizing the activities within agencies’ land management plans.
