For the first time since he rescued three teenagers lost at sea for 50 days near Fiji, a San Diego fishing boat captain is sharing his encounter.
Capt. Joe Soares said the chances of spotting a 12-foot boat in the open waters is so small that finding the teens was nothing short of a miracle.
“Usually, we offload our catch in American Samoa and the company called us down here down in New Zealand to offload our catch and do repairs – an act of God – we just took this course and there they were right on our bow,” says Soares.
