Fleet Week New York is the city’s celebration of the sea services held nearly every year since 1984.
Thousands of sailors, marines and Coast Guardsmen from Navy and Coast Guard ships are in Manhattan for Fleet Week New York through next Wednesday.
This year’s event honors the bicentennial of the War of 1812 and the OpSail port tour coinciding with War of 1812 festivities.
The event provides an opportunity for the citizens of New York City and the surrounding Tri-State area to meet sailors, marines and Coast Guardsmen, as well as witness the latest capabilities of all these services.
Fleet Week includes dozens of military demonstrations and displays throughout the week, as well as public visitation of many of the participating ships.
