A piece of an old boat from as far back as the 1800s might have been found in Seaside, Oregon, by a couple of buddies armed with a metal detector.
Ben Hidy and friend Travis Trapani, using a basic detector purchased just six days earlier, found a 20-foot beam in the sand Saturday. Scouring a Seaside beach, Hidy said the device pinged on a piece of iron about four inches from the sand.
