The Marchiandos had taken six visiting relatives — including three children — to a Destin beach, heading home when Pete noticed a storm coming in over the Gulf of Mexico.
They were in Choctawhatchee Bay when he looked over and saw a huge charter fishing boat rolling so badly he could see the bottom of the vessel.
“It was that fast,” he said of the first wave. “Buried our boat all the way up to the cabin.”
