The Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, N.Y., has lost a leader with the abrupt and unexpected resignation of its executive director.
Frederick P. Schmitt, 57, who succeeded John C. MacLean as the museum’s executive director in May 2010, submitted his letter of resignation Tuesday, said Paul Regan Jr., chairman of the museum’s human resources committee.
His resignation took effect Wednesday.
“We are quite shocked, actually. It floored us,” Regan said.
