Highfield Boats, the Michigan-based builder of rigid inflatable boats (RIBS), recently announced a new jet-powered recreational model. The Velox 420 with aluminum hull can function as a watersports platform for day trips or a tender for a yacht. The 14-footer was designed and engineered in collaboration with BRP, the Canadian manufacturer of snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles and personal watercraft. The Highfield Velox 420 will feature BRP’s Rotax jet propulsion system.

The first 14-foot Velox 420 is offered with a 90-hp Rotax 903 ACE engine and CAT exhaust. With that system, the RIB will yield a top speed of 33 knots, according to Highfield. The RIB will be available in four colors.
“We designed the Highfield Velox for a new generation of boaters,” said Christophe Lavigne, president of Highfield Boats USA. “Owners can add fun options like a sound system, roll bar and Bimini top, but our main goal was to make it affordable compared to many other boats in its size range. The Highfield Velox 420 has a retail price of just $35,000, plus transport and prep.”
Initial deliveries of the 420 are scheduled for spring of 2024. The builder says this model is the first in a new series of jet-powered RIBs.
