The International Yacht Restoration School will host a special admissions open house for high school students April 18 at its facility in Bristol, R.I.

“In the industries we serve, the work force is definitely graying,” IYRS vice president of programming Susan Daly said in a statement. “Young people with mechanical or technical aptitude are in great demand. Our open house is designed to answer the questions of students and their parents as they make their plans for life after high school.”

The IYRS admissions staff travels throughout the year to high schools in New England and New York, and a number of young students have already made a successful transition from high school to IYRS to careers in the marine industry.

About 17 percent of the school’s current student body is students under the age of 20, the school said.
