Nobska Light in Woods Hole, Mass., might still end up being sold, but the Coast Guard has another opportunity for an outside group to take over the iconic building.

Non-profit organizations and government groups have until early August to pitch a plan to run the lighthouse and attached residence through a grant agreement.

Akin to a lease or license agreement, the grant would allow an organization to restore the lighthouse and run a program from there without having to pay rent. The Coast Guard would still own the structure, which continues to be used as a navigational aid, and run its light and foghorn.
