A man in Merritt Island, Fla., was sentenced to a year of probation and ordered to forfeit the boat he was operating that struck and killed a manatee in a protection zone in Brevard County last year.
The judge also ordered him to make monthly contributions of $50 while on probation to a wildlife-related charitable organization.
