While many musicians will be hitting the New England music circuit this summer in a car or truck, one New Hampshire-based folk duo will be arriving at some of their Maine concerts in a most unusual manner … on board a 30-foot sailboat.

Bennett & Perkins, singer/songwriters from the White Mountains of New Hampshire, will be performing this summer on a special tour of the islands of Maine, from North Haven to Great Cranberry Island.

Bennett & Perkins features the guitar and vocal talents of Kathy Bennett and Thom Perkins. Finalists in the 2012 Maine Songwriters Competition, the duo just released their second CD, “House on Fire.”

Thom Perkins has sailed his boat out of Rockland, Maine, for decades. Through the years, other mariners would find him on board Stella, his Allied Seawind Ketch, along with his 1966 Gibson J50 guitar.

Last summer Perkins was joined by partner Kathy Bennett and the pair discovered music and sailing went well together. So well that when they found that many of Maine’s islands offer summer concerts, they decided they would focus their 2013 summer performance schedule around them.

“Over the years as I went sailing and visited these islands, I was offered hospitality and I wanted to offer something back,” says Perkins.

The duo’s website, www.bennettandperkins.com, features detailed information on all the concert location, times and admission. They can also be found on Facebook and YouTube.
