New Boat: Back Cove 39O

The Maine builder’s second outboard-powered model is really fast and really quiet

For almost two decades, Back Cove has been building inboard-powered, Downeast style cruisers, but since 2018 the Maine builder has also been building outboard-powered models.

Its first outboard model, the 34O, got a lot of inspiration from the inboard-powered Back Cove 32, but the latest model, the 39O, is the first outboard model designed by Back Cove from the ground up.

Soundings executive editor Pim Van Hemmen took the 39O for a ride on Maine’s Casco Bay and found she was fast, and shockingly quiet.
