A powerboat taking part in a world record attempt was engulfed in flames on a British lake on Monday.

The high-speed wreck, punctuated by a towering fireball, was seen by spectators at the annual five-day Coniston Power Boat Records Week event in Cumbria, England.

Chris Loney, from Windermere, who was attempting to break the Clubman’s Catamaran Unlimited record, blew over the hull of the Italian built vessel.

He was approaching the South Gate at 148 mph when the boat flipped 180 degrees.

Amazingly, nobody was injured.
