The National Sailing Center & Hall of Fame announced that the first induction of 15 people to the National Sailing Hall of Fame will be dedicated to the memory of Walter Cronkite, an avid sailor who served as honorary chair on the Hall’s Board of Advisors from 2006 until his passing on July 17, 2009. The induction ceremony will take place Oct. 23 at the San Diego Yacht Club.

To celebrate Cronkite’s contributions to American sailing on this occasion, the National Sailing Center & Hall of Fame website is now featuring a mobile-compatible, two-part series titled “America’s Cup: Cronkite Reports” — in which he chronicles, race by race, the 1987 America’s Cup campaign, a watershed event in American sailing.

A 2-minute clip from the TV-show can be seen on the National Sailing Center & Hall of Fame’s home page, Facebook page and YouTube Channel.
