Now that San Francisco is the only U.S. city in the running to host the America’s Cup, Mayor Gavin Newsom is rallying corporate, civic and political leaders to land a sporting event that could inject billions into the local economy.
The mayor hopes to generate support nationwide to compete against four European countries – Spain, Italy and two undisclosed nations – also vying to host the 159-year-old regatta.
