A sailor heading to shore in a dinghy on Caribbean island of St. Martin was seriously injured in a boating accident last week.
Jon Binney, 57, of Walpole, N.H., was transported in a medical jet from the island Sunday, ultimately headed to Massachusetts General Hospital.
“It’s going to be a long haul,” daughter Sian Binney, one of Jon’s five children, told the New Hampshire Union Leader.
She said Wednesday’s boat collision shattered Binney’s pelvis and left him with four broken ribs, three fractured vertebrae, breaks in both shoulder blades and the tops of both femurs.
Binney was headed to shore Wednesday with a friend in a dinghy after battening down his sailboat. A powerboat reportedly traveling at about 30 mph ran over the smaller vessel, which the speedboat driver apparently didn’t see until a passenger noticed the wreckage and two people being dragged through the water.
