The extended July Fourth weekend that just concluded was the busiest in the 30-year history of Sea Tow Services International on-water assistance provider.
Sea Tow’s national 24/7 Dispatch Center, together with its individual locations across the U.S., reported a 12 percent increase in calls for on-water assistance during the five-day weekend from July 3-7 over calls reported during the five-day holiday period from July 2-6, 2012.
Sea Tow also reported that more than 100 of the calls for assistance it received during this year’s July Fourth holiday were made using the Sea Tow Mobile App for iPhone and Android smartphones. This free App enables boaters to call for help with the swipe of a single finger on the phone’s touchscreen, and provides the caller’s exact GPS coordinates to Sea Tow’s Dispatch Center to further expedite service.
As usual, the No. 1 assistance request reported by Sea Tow during the July 4th holiday period was for boat tows. This was followed by fuel delivery and jump starts in second and third place, respectively, with ungroundings running a close fourth. In addition, more than 38 percent of Sea Tow Captains across the country provided a salvage or recovery service during the long weekend.
“This July Fourth holiday weekend was the busiest we’ve seen since I founded Sea Tow back in 1983,” Sea Tow Founder and CEO Capt. Joe Frohnhoefer says.
