Sea Tow Services International reported a 47 percent increase in the volume of calls for assistance that its national 24-hour dispatch center received during the four-day Fourth of July weekend from the same period last year.

“We attribute this to good weather, lower fuel prices and holiday activities in most of the country’s popular boating areas,” Sea Tow COO Capt. Joseph Frohnhoefer III said in a statement. “It was an awesome July 4th holiday weekend for boaters!”

The center also reported that more than 60 percent of the calls it received were tow requests. Jump starts, assistance with ungroundings and fuel delivery were other frequent requests from Sea Tow members and other boaters around the country.
