Two weeks of abnormally cool weather, capped by record-cold water temperatures earlier this month, have prompted emergency measures not seen in decades to protect Florida’s prized game fish species.
The widespread cold-related fish kills spanned the state and affected all species – not just game fish. Scientists expect many more to die as stressed survivors succumb to lesions and other illnesses.
