The youngest of the teenagers from various countries inspired to attempt to sail solo around the world weathered 55 knot winds rounding Cape Agulhas and arrived safe at Cape Town, South Africa.
Laura Dekker, 16-year-old Dutch sailor with New Zealand roots, set off from Gibralter 463 days earlier and has hopped to multiple ports aboard her 38-foot boat named Guppy.
A seasoned skipper who sailed to welcome Laura at sea said the weather had been awful.
“Not even the most seasoned skipper will round Cape Point in winds like that. She’s a very brave girl,” he said.
