A few lucky muskrats in Michigan’s Muskegon River kept their pelts Tuesday when a trapper accidentally submerged his vehicle, not his boat, into the frigid water.

Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Todd Dunham, head of the sheriff’s office marine division, said the county’s dive team was dispatched to Creston and Giles Road in Muskegon Township on the call of a submerged vehicle.

The man had the aluminum boat in the bed of his truck, but when he got out of the vehicle to slide the boat into the water, the vehicle drove right into the river, Dunham said.

The trapped said he forgot to put the truck in park before getting out.
