On Aug. 20 and 21 boaters flocked to the 34th annual Antique and Classic Boat Festival, which the Brewer Hawthorne Cove Marina hosted in Salem, Massachusetts.
Pat Wells, of the Boston Educational Marine Exchange, launched the festival in 1983. He wanted to bring people back into the harbors of Massachusetts and celebrate maritime heritage.
One of the ways the festival encourages the preservation and restoration of antique boats is through a series of contests in which awards are given for best sailboat, best powerboat, finest interior, best restoration, best in original condition and several other categories.
In addition to the boats there were vendors, live music, a crafts tent for children and food. The festival happens every August. You can learn more about this year’s event, and plan for the next one, here.
