There’s nothing as calming as a walk along an autumn beach, and members of the One Harbor Church, who were on retreat in North Carolina last week, were probably anticipating a contemplative stroll along the Cape Lookout National Seashore.

They got a little more excitement than they bargained for when about a hundred small sharks came right into the shallows.

Cameraman Donny Griggs, an avid diver, angler and surfer, was on hand to video the scene as the sharks — probably sandbar sharks or blacktip sharks — churned the water in pursuit of lunch.

There’s no mystery about what they were after: It’s reported that several people threw unbaited lines into the water and caught bluefish. Among the sharks, the circling gulls and the pelicans and fishermen, the bluefish didn’t really have any good options.
