A Long Island couple has tried everything to get rid of a sailboat stuck in their backyard — a remnant from Hurricane Sandy that has been there for nearly two years.
The 32-foot boat was only one of the boats that washed up behind their condo, but it is the only one they haven’t been able to have removed. And when it’s high tide, they worry that the mast will break through the windows of their condo.
“We have a number on the boat,” Ann Piazza told Channel 11. “We have reported that to insurance companies, the governor, the mayor, the borough president. They’re telling us they can’t remove the boat because it’s personal property.”
Now the news team at the station is looking into the matter and trying to help the couple get the boat removed.
