New boats are back in town. Builders came to the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, which began Thursday, armed with more truly new models than we’ve seen in several years.

During the recession boatbuilders modified existing designs — redesigning deck and cabin layouts or adding flybridges — and presented them as “new” boats. Show goers are seeing and will see more truly new boats this season.

Boatbuilders and dealers are standing proudly on the docks, ushering you to products that have never been seen before.

On the first day of the show I took in press conferences for more than a half dozen new models from builders such as Boston Whaler, Tiara, Benetti, Riviera, Sealine, Regulator and Scout.
