Every boat is built with a purpose, and for some, the purpose is to sail fast — really fast.

After setting two world speed sailing records a couple of weeks ago, the MOD70 Phaedo3 set another Sept. 22, sailing 175 nautical miles across the English Channel from Cowes, England, to Dinard, France, in 4 hours, 49 minutes and 51 seconds.

Skipper Lloyd Thornburg reported that the average speed of his Gunboat 66 was 28.7 knots. The top speed was 40.9 knots.

Take a look at some intense sailing aboard the 66-foot catamaran Phaedo3.
