The tall ship L’Hermione is a replica of Revolutionary War hero Marquis de Lafayette’s 18th century frigate, Freedom.
After nearly 17 years under construction, the ship made its Grand Voyage to America a huge success this summer as 50,000 people visited L’Hermione in 18 ports of call from Yorktown, Va., to Castine, Maine.

The majestic L’Hermione is the largest and most authentically built tall ship of the last 150 years.
“When you step on board you can smell the authenticity,” Miles Young, the president of the Friends of Hermione-Lafayette in America, told the Boston Globe during the ship’s stop in Boston in July.
Francoise McCoy, 62, a native of France who lives in Salem, Mass., carried both countries’ flags in downtown Boston on the day L’Hermione arrived.
“I love to be from France and I love to be from America,” she said, waving the flags proudly.
