The crew of an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles, Wash., rescued a man from his grounded 38-foot sailboat during a storm near Bellingham, Wash., on Nov. 3.

The nighttime rescue looks to be by the book, judging from this Coast Guard video we found, but it serves as a reminder of how gutsy a nighttime rescue in cold water can be.

The Dolphin crew located the boat, grounded in shallow water on mud flats and listing slightly with torn sails. The crew deployed its rescue swimmer, who found and contacted the sailor. The crew then hoisted both of them aboard the Dolphin.

The sailor was transported to Bellingham Airport, where emergency medical personnel met and released him with no reported injuries.
