San Diego boaters have a complicated relationship with the sea lions that also call the harbor their home port.
Complaints of sea lions overrunning boats and leaving a mess are as common as the city’s legendary “perfect weather.”
This video we found shows a kinder, gentler meeting of man and marine mammal. A sea lion that boarded a dinghy quickly endeared himself.
“Here’s my new friend. He jumped aboard out at the bridge,” the unnamed boater tells the camera with a smile. “Just hanging out with me.”
Under the right circumstances, maybe we can all get along.
