The May 24 incident occurred about 8 a.m. when the outboard-powered boat “lost one of its two engines, ran out of gas and became disabled,” the Coast Guard said in a statement. The crew of the Miami Beach-based cutter Diamondback got to the boat about 12:30 p.m.
All five of the boaters were wearing life jackets. The boat was towed to keep it from capsizing, Lt. Emily Rose, commanding officer of the Diamondback, said.
