Trawler yacht builder Nordic Tugs is touting its new NT 39 fast trawler with a promotion that asks the question, “Who ever said all trawlers are slow?”
Matched with a proven Lynn Senour-designed semidisplacement hull, the 370-hp Volvo powers up to speeds in the upper teens or at a fuel-sipping 8-knot cruising speed.
Photographer Paul Tortora, who is also a salesman at the Nordic Tugs dealer Wilde Yacht Sales in Essex, Conn., recently filmed a clip that shows an NT 39 towing a wakeboarder along the Connecticut River.
Totora got the bird’s-eye view with a DJI Phantom 3 video camera. The Nordic Tug 39 averaged between 12 and 15 knots while it pulled the wakeboarder, he said.
There are other “fast trawlers” on the market, but most traditional trawler yachts are only capable of cruising speeds in the 6- to 8-knot range.
