An Alaskan fishing guide recently caught a spectacular scene of a sea lion being hunted by an orca.

“This morning near Ketchikan, Alaska, a sea lion was hiding under our fishing boat because he was being stalked by a killer whale,” writes Brian Ringeisen, who runs halibut, rockfish and salmon fishing charters through Anglers Adventures & Outfitters. “When we decided to leave the area, the whale attacked the sea lion and tossed him 20 feet into the air!”

The footage was taken Aug. 15 during one of Anglers Adventurers & Outfitters’ fishing trips aboard a 28-foot Bayliner Trophy.

The whales are hardly playing — they are battering and disorienting their prey to make them easier to dispatch.
